Now Hiring: Community Manager for ClearlyDefined Project

We’re hiring! The Open Source Initiative is looking for a Community Manager to help grow the contributions to ClearlyDefined and expand its reach.

Consumers of Open Source often struggle to find basic things like the license for a component, the source location (e.g., Git commit) for a version, and details to be included in attributions (e.g., copyright holders in a Notices file). These ambiguities make projects hard to consume. Projects that are hard to consume get less engagement. Everyone loses.

ClearlyDefined is a crowdsourced project created in 2018 to address this need and boost the success of Open Source projects by improving licensing data in software packages. Initially founded by Microsoft in partnership with the Open Source Initiative, the project has been adopted by SAP, Bloomberg and other companies. At the beginning of 2022 it went through a redesign and now it hosts almost 19 million definitions.

This community manager role is for you if:

  • you like to interact with developers and licensing experts across the globe
  • you understand modern software development challenges
  • you’re comfortable with concepts like SBOM
  • you have a basic understanding of concepts like compliance, provenance, and licensing basics
  • you enjoy explaining these concepts to others in a clear and concise way

This role will give you the opportunity to work with large enterprises who use Open Source on one hand. On the other, you’ll be collaborating with projects, package managers and their communities to educate them about the value of compliance.

You’ll work in a fully remote, international environment reporting directly to me and with a wide freedom to define the tactics to achieve the goals.
